What: Step by Step Guide to Applying Watercolor to Fabric, How to Set and to add Stitches for Embellishments
When: Saturday, May 30th
Time: 10:00 am-2:30 pm (PST)
Let’s make good use of all our art supplies, shall we?! In this lesson, I will show you how to turn your tubed, fluid and inky watercolors into a wash safe version on fabrics! We’ll free hand sketch a bit, but mostly we’ll stamp and watercolor directly onto our fabrics of choice. I’m partial to little tote bags, kitchen towels, canvas zipper pouches, but it’s also really fun to paint directly on muslin. Think cute tshirts, onsies, beautifully custom yardage for quilting or pillows – sky is the limit!
Stuff we’ll cover: Mixing tubed watercolor paints to create easy to use fluid paints, fabric paint brayered onto stamps, stamps with fabric safe ink in ink pads, heat setting your watercolor paintings on fabric and applying dry & wet techniques on fabric,
Class Supplies:
· Liquid (or Tubed) Watercolors – Marabu Aqua Inks, Ecoline, Emily Grace Inks or Dr. PH Martin’s
· Synthetic Brushes – round 4 or 6, 2 and 18/0
· Small condiment cups (these are reusable) with lids or kids disposable plastic drinking cups
· Golden Gac900 or any brand of fabric medium
· Pipettes (about 6 to 8)
· Fabric Paint (white & black) – my fave brand is Fabric Creations, but any will do, even your Golden High Flow (titanium white/black).
· Pencil
· Stamps (if they have masks {like IOD}, even better)
· Permanent Ink Pad, if you don’t have plans to wash, Ranger Archival Ink works great. If you want to wash, then you’ll need IOD’s Black Ink (in an ink pad) or if want to stamp with fabric paint, you’ll need a brayer – I’ll show you how to use all of these products though
· Iron
· Cardboard (this will get inserted into your garments/bags etc, so the fabric doesn’t bleed to the other side.
· Fabric, I love 100% cotton tea towels or cotton or canvas produce bags or tea dyed muslin – the tighter the weave the better
*PLEASE NOTE ALL FABRIC SHOULD BE WASHED, DRIED & PRESSED BEFORE CLASS!!
