Soooo, you’ve been bitten by the stamping carving bug, eh?! Yah, I totally get it, it’s a world of opportunity; filled with the zen of carving, stamping and printing one-of-a-kind art. In this lesson, we’re going to work on a more detailed stamp. A stamp that’s not so much a thin line of detail, but a cutting out of specific elements for a more complex design. Our stamps will be roughly 4” x 6”, which when complete, we’ll block print with the appropriate speedball supplies.
* Pre-requisite - If you’re interested in this lesson, you will need to purchase a replay of Stamp Carving 101, and squeeze in a few weeks of carving stamps to see your personal style take form, and to truly grasp your carving supplies.
Supplies:
· Pencil
· Parchment Paper or Deli Paper or Clear Trace Paper
· Inking palette or slab, this is used to smooth your ink out with brayer & get an even distribution of ink on the brayer (acrylic sheets (I got one at dollar tree that’s 4x6), palette paper, a piece of sturdy glass or even a piece of metal
· Speedball Block Printing Ink (black is just fine)
· Speedball Block Brayer (soft rubber brayer)
· Print Making Paper or Vintage Deckled Edged Tea Dye 100% Watercolor Paper
· Spoon
· *Optional – Pfeil Tools - if you love carving and are ready to invest in a higher quality set of tools, here the link to the ones I purchased. However, you can very easily continue to use the Speedball Lino Cutter set, this is just the next step in your carving journey. If you’re interested in a chip carving blade, this is the one I have.
· **Optional - If you’re finding that your tools are getting lots of use, and the tips less sharp, here is the slip strop I’ve invested in.
Classroom/Class Outline/Intellectual Property
Facebook Messenger Classroom - We have a private Facebook Messenger group for each of my online classes. If we are not “friends” already on Facebook, please send me a friend request here. I will add you to this Messenger group. It’s a place to communicate with fellow students, share work, and ask questions.
If you are a brand new student with me, you will receive an email from Lexi.Grenzer@gmail.com, which will include your first class outline. It is EXTREMELY important that you send me a friend request on Facebook, as we use FB Messenger for all class communication. Once we are “friends” on FB, I will add you to this private Messenger group. Keep in mind that I create a new messenger group for each and every one of my classes. In this messenger string, the very first message in the group will include your class outline, a zoom link for joining the class and any pertinent class information. Once you have taken at least one class with me, I will no longer send your class outlines via email. You will automatically be added to the corresponding FB Messenger classroom, where you will find all class details. If you have any questions, please always feel free to shoot me an email – I’m here to help whenever I can.
Please do not license the content created in my classes, duplicate/copy or reteach the classes/content (online, in person or via recording). These courses are intended for your own personal growth, and I’m delighted to share my love of art with you!
