Mixed Media Journal 2026 is a monthly meet up via zoom. Class will be hosted on the second Thursday night of each month. Our “master substrate” is the Dina Wakley Media Journal by Ranger. This journal has pages made of burlap, canvas, handmade paper and kraft cardstock. We are going apply a variety of mediums to these pages, and each month we’ll use the outlined supplies, please see below for the basic description of those. This class is all about using what you have, so hopefully you only need to buy the journal. If you need a suggestion or alternate, don’t hesitate to ask.

Month1: Plaster over Burlap, IOD Paint Inlay into Chalk-paint and added details with gold or silver paint

Month 2: Brick Stencil with Venetian Plaster on handmade paper pages, watercolor brick texture applied, sealed and IOD transfers applied – think prettily grafitti’d wall mural

Month 3: Shallow TP molded elements set into Venetian Plaster, soft washes of color applied with chalk-paints, stencil detailing and gold/silver highlights. We’ll also add some cheesecloth into our wet plaster for added texture and interest

Month 4: Dina Wakley inspired faces on mixed media backgrounds, water-soluble crayons, torn bits of paper, collaged words & stenciled layers

Class Supplies:

·         Venetian Plaster

·         IOD Paint Inlays – any scraps or designs you have are good. If you need some and don’t’ want to buy a full set, your class mates can help with that (we love to share)

·         IOD Transfers – any scraps or designs you have are good. If you need some and don’t’ want to buy a full set, your class mates can help with that (we love to share)

·         IOD or silicone moulds (designs of your choosing)

·         Stamps – this lesson is all about faces and adornments, so if you don’t have any rubber stamps sets with faces, consider picking up an inexpensive set with a variety of face options

·         Stencils

·         Palette Knife

·         Cheesecloth or left over gauze from medical wrappings etc.

·         Permanent ink pad(s) for stamps, like Archival in Jet Black

·         Water-soluble crayons or scribble sticks or pencils (as long as they re-activate with water)

·         Spray bottle with water

·         Chalk-paints – whatever colors you have

·         Posh Chalk Gold or Silver pigment powders or mica & varnish if you don’t have the Posh Chalk variety

·         Spray Fixative

·         Top Coat ( any brand of matte top coat, I’ll be using my Amy Howard Matte Sealer)

·         Watercolor ground (clear or white)

·         Toilet Paper (2-ply)

·         Mixed media brushes (assorted sizes)

·         Heat tool or hair dryer

·         Painters Tape

·         Watercolor Paints (if you have a full water soluble crayon set, you could get by with that too)

·         Optional Additions: Acrylic Paint Pens, Acrylic Paints

·         Scratch paper to place behind your wet pages (to avoid product transfer onto other pages)
